ROYAL AIR FORCE BENEVOLENT FUND PARTNERS WITH SPITFIRE ALE TO COMMEMORATE BATTLE OF BRITAIN WEEK

To commemorate Battle of Britain week the RAF Benevolent Fund has joined forces with Spitfire Ale to help raise money to support serving and retired members of the RAF, and their families.

Kentish Brewery Shepherd Neame has created a limited edition Battle of Britain pack of its popular Spitfire Premium Kentish Ale. As part of the promotion, which takes place throughout September, 25 pence from each eight-pack sold and 10 pence per pint in participating Punch Taverns pubs, will go to the charity. Ale-drinkers will also get the opportunity to win a day with the Red Arrows.

Helping to launch the partnership at the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby, was 88 year old Battle of Britain veteran and ex-Spitfire pilot, Wing Commander Terence Cane, who was captured by the Germans after shooting down a German fighter plane over the Channel.

Terence said, "I'm proud to be here today to support the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund which has done so much to help generations of RAF men and woman - from veterans of the Great Wars like myself to those deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan today."

Shepherd Neame's Sales and Marketing Director, Graeme Craig, added: "This September, ale-lovers can enjoy the great taste of Spitfire while knowing they are also helping those who have risked their lives to preserve our freedom."

RICHARD BURNS MEMORIAL RALLY READY FOR TAKE OFF

Richard BurnsA new charity rally event to celebrate the life of England's only World Rally Champion has been announced. The Richard Burns Memorial Rally will take place at RAF Marham on 13-14 September. The rally will feature 120 competitors - with amateurs competing against some of the world's top drivers - and aims to raise in excess of £100,000. Proceeds will be split between the Richard Burns Foundation, which provides support for people suffering from life-threatening diseases or injury, and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.

Richurd Burns' visit to Royal Air Force MarhamThe inspiration for the event was provided by Richard Burns' visit to Royal Air Force Marham in 2000 when he was taken for a flight in a Tornado GR4 jet. On the same day Richard gave Sgt Chris Daykin of the Royal Air Force Marham ground crew a driving lesson in a WRC car - which left a lasting impression. Chris wanted to do something to pay tribute to the memory of his hero after he passed away due to a brain tumour in 2005. Chris - who will drive his own rally car in the event - said, "In this, the 90th Anniversary year of the Royal Air Force, I hope to bring a wide range of people together for this event from the motor sport industry and the Royal Air Force so that our combined efforts can make a difference to people less fortunate than ourselves in health and well-being."
